Today (for the first time, to my utter shame) I visited Birmingham’s creative hub; The Custard Factory. Including having a mooch in their awesome new Mr Birds Emporium which I’ve been intending to visit for months now.
What finally lured me there was their Bicycle Basket Bazaar; described as “A unique array of retailers, all cramming their wares into bike-baskets and pannier-racks. Kind of like a car boot sale, but more compact and kinder to the environment.”
Below are some images from the Bicycle Basket Bazaar area, which was in the central courtyard and surrounded by quite a number of shops, and of course, Mr Birds (which is like a indoor market of independent traders) is situated at The Custard Factory also.
www.skinnynib.com – lovely products on this bicycle.
This rather dapper chap above is actually taking photos with his vintage camera and then processing them straight away inside his ‘dark room’ suitcase atop his bicycle! I had to tear my children away from him such was their fascination.
The water you can see is a massive circular pond in the central courtyard of all the shops.
One of my favourite shops was this vintage camera shop shown below. It had a few other odd pieces not relevant to cameras too, such as vintage robots for instance!
Finally I ended up in Mr Birds Emporium, which is where money began to leak out of my hands Please note the really cool grafitti octopus in the distance!
Oh ok, I took a close up of it too
So, this below is what I spent my money on.
And here is one of purchases ‘in action’ modelled by my daughter in front of this bike that was literally begging for a photo session
And my camera too …
