Julian Opie – Simple & Colourful

A few years ago I saw the portrait work of Julian Opie, and it was the first time I’d heard of this artist … I think that this type of work is probably what he is most famous for … portraits and people.
Recently I reminded of his art when I saw the design work of a local design agency Zulu Creative for Birmingham Midshires. The Birmingham Midshires project in their portfolio displays simple and colourful characters in lifestyle setting, which seem very Julien Opie-like to me. Which is why he popped to mind.
After visiting his website I realised that Julian Opie has a wider range of artworks outside of portraits and his art collection includes landscapes, architecture and even moving images.

In addition to his portfolio website, he has a fabulous shop also and most of the items in there would be suitable eye candy for any design agency reception area
Lending that required air of “Yes, we are a cool and happening design agency” ….

Great portraits. I’ve seen ones in this kind of style before and they always catch myattention, I love the use of thick lines and bold colours.
I did some portraits like this for one of my projects when I was at college. I really enjoyed doing the project and I like how simple and effective they are. Like you Danny I like the use of the thick lines and bright colours.
