Skinny Cow – Great Branding

A new brand I’ve been seeing in magazines recently is Skinny Cow ; a range of low calories deserts. I think the name is totally inspired because it has many great meanings pumped into just two simple and easy to remember words;
‘Skinny’ - It will make you skinny, ‘skinny’ being an American term for low fat version.
‘Cow’ - Made from milk for all/most of of their desserts
‘Skinny Cow’ – “You skinny cow you …I guess it’s all those low calories deserts from Skinny Cow helping you”
I think a good strong brand name is vital in brand development. The more imaginative and creative the name, the more creative and original the imagery attached to it can be and then in turn the stronger you can build your brand image from there.
The Skinny Cow websites are also impressive … (there are two)

….. and the second UK version clearly wants to attract the type of women who read Heat Magazine and live that ‘trendy young thing’ lifestyle. Well that’s in my humble opinion anyway….I also say that because it’s where I saw their adverts first!
If you look at the .com web site featuring all the products, what I find very interesting and unusual compared to other ecommerce sites is the presentation of all the products in illustrative format rather than photo format. Either that or they are heavily edited photos that because of that appear to be illustrations.
I’ve just had a rummage through the site and it’s definitely brand design in it’s most beautiful form. Every single beautiful inch of the site has Skinny Cow branding stamped all over it; from hoof print scroll bar sliders to Skinny herself in a different pose on every single page….I love it!
I wish I’d designed the logo and then I’ve have had great fun designing all the other multiple graphics that are used throughout the website, my favs include to just pluck a couple out of the site from many;

I feel the Skinny Cow brand is a great and rare example of a company living and breathing their brand in every single area of their product promotion. I feel myself wanting to sign up to their newsletter just because it’s cute!
