Truly Ace Travels Ooop North

I went North a bit a couple of weekends ago, for a visit to the Peak District. Amazingly I’ve never been there although it’s not that far away from the Midlands.
Whilst I was there I popped into a lovely shop and saw these amazing illustrations as part of a range of high end products for Nougat London. I’ve never seen these before and was rather taken by them.
Outside of ‘products aimed at the teen market’ it’s rare to see such extensive use of illustrations in beauty product branding, so I was really pleased to find them.
These are my photos from the shop:

The Illustrator
I also wanted to know who the illustrator was, and so after some hunting found her….a lady from New Zealand called Nellie Ryan
You can view her other work at www.nellieryan.com
Some of my favourites from her portfolio include …

Lots more to see on her website.

Oh brilliant, I’m so pleased you posted a comment because I went to my Google reader to read blogs for the first time in two months and your links were all dead. I was miffed because I really liked your blog!
So, why did you shut down the blog? It was really interesting. Will your new domain going to feature the blog now?
In the 1950s we used illustration so much more than we do now, but thankfully it’s not a dead art in terms of advertising/marketing yet, and actually of recent years I think it’s grown in popularity.
Thanks
Amanda

Hi Amanda,
There are MANY reasons I decided to shut down the blog, but I guess the main reason was how unprofessional it felt - considering I was offering design services through it.
I will DEFINITELY be including a new blog when I relaunch in a few weeks, blogging and owning a website has taught me more than I could ever imagine and I hope it is something I will always enjoy. I also hope to launch another site soon based on technology (yes, a geek blog) focusing on user generated content.
Thanks for your kind comments on the site & looking forward to seeing some more great stuff from you!
Thanks,
Danny.

Really? You thought it was unprofessional? I thought it was perfectly professional.
I think it’s good if a blog has a bit of a unprofessional feel to it though, otherwise how are you supposed to get across the real character and daily life of the person writing it. If the writer stays in ‘full on’ professional mode, you’ll never get a feel for the real person behind the business.
I think blogs that sound like a series of articles aren’t as good as those blogs that are more conversational and give a feel for the person behind the blog. I think blogs should be a bit like diaries ideally.
Let me know when the new blog goes live

I have seen her work before and she does some great design that really are inspiring and something different to the usual. I like how she makes them seem real

originality and simplicity does exist .In this hectic world we hardly have time to spare our thoughts for mundane things which we use in our daily life and whether the soap is from australia or austria but when we want to experiment we hardly look what inside but the illustration of the product. And simplicity does attract human heart
