Dance Academy Graffiti Logo Design

The Delaney Academy Of Irish Dance asked me to create a different version of their company logo - not necessarily similar to the existing logo in any way, but one that was less corporate and instead something that would appeal to the teenagers that attend the classes because it was the aim for the new design to feature on class garments such as hoodies, bags and Tshirts.
I wanted to create something young and funky with an ‘urban street vibe’ to it, and whilst it wasn’t specified as ‘necessary’, to also at least echo something of the existing brand and so started with the DA initials shown within the existing company logo and displayed directly below:

From this point the below grunge style logo was born;

As you can see the existing letter shapes have been used within a sketch/graffiti styling that has been liberally festooned with Irish motifs. I felt that pink was appropriate because it matches the graffiti style well and a colour well liked by teenage girls and I’m led to believe that classes are heavily weighted with girls.
Toning Down The Irish
Now unfortunately I was asked to ‘tone down the Irish’
and thus the design eventually evolved to this below… with less Irish motifery if such a word exists, which I think it doesn’t, and also to change it to colours in line with the existing brand.
I do like this version below but I have a definite preference for the original design, which feels more ‘urban street’ to me and I feel would be a design favoured more by the students. I can understand however the decision to keep the colours in line with the corporate brand image.

Thank you so much for your comment! You have made my day you really have
I so wanted the students (presuming you are a student?) to appreciate the motif and feel that it’s somewhat ‘trendy’ and ’street’. To hear of you ‘blinging it out’ also is utterly fabulous!
What would really make my day would be if you had some photos of you (and anyone else willing to be a model) blinging it out in the hoodies with the motif showing
How do you bling them out by the way? I’m totally intrigued
I need photos!
