Escape Health & Beauty Branding

Flyer Design

I’ve been working for some months on the gradual development of the Escape Health and Beauty Salon brand and it’s been one of my favourite projects over the last five years.

The main reason being that I’ve had the opportunity to firstly develop a brand design from first idea to final logo design, but then to take this logo design forward to it’s fullest potential and create a whole range of branded marketing materials for the business, and here is the result of this work so far.

Below you can see business cards containing the Escape Salon logo design and brand theme, along with their ‘recommend a friend’ card and ‘loyalty’ card designs.

Print Design

The ‘recommend a friend’ cards feature a design that was developed for the Escape Salon website….the design you see below for their website featuring the flowers, bird, and customer ‘escaping from it all’ in a treatment bath filled with flower petals are all custom designed illustrations and 100% original.

Escape Salon are now the copyright owners to these images.

Web Design

Today we went on to develop the A5 flyer design you see below, which will also be blown up to A1 size and printed as a poster…this will be placed in the Salon window to attract passing trade.

Flyer Design

For those of you interested in where the inspiration comes from for the graphics you see in designs like these:

Flowers: The client has a very keen love of flowers for imagery in her brand, originally we thought photographs….but once I developed the illustrated flowers we could both see that these were much more appealing and original than stock photos :)

Ickle Bird: Well I just love this bird, but do you know where the idea came into my mind for this cute icon….well about a year or so ago I remember seeing a little bird outline a cushion on a website and thinking the shape and simplicity of a little bird was amazing (I’ve searched high and low for the cushion to refer to, I can’t find it since), and then I was standing in Accessorize about a month ago purchasing something for my mother in law and I saw a bird of similar simplistic shape on a cute pink keyring and eyed it longingly. Again, unluckily for us Accessorize does not have this keyring on their website for me to show you the image.

When I was designing the flowers, the bird suddenly came to mind and I thought it was an ideal opportunity to use a simplistic outline bird that I’d seen elsewhere on the cushion, and on a keyring and long admired it’s simple cuteness. I think this works wonderfully in it’s flowery setting.

Relaxing Lady: The client had shown me a photo at the outset of her web design project that she admired, of a lady relaxing in a bath in beautiful surroundings. As I couldn’t find anything anywhere near as good in the stock library to include on her website I decided to draw it instead.

It was also suggested that the client could use several different headers for her website where the lady featured is the same, but has different colouring and ethinicity….to appeal to all customer types.

So as the user clicks through the site, depending on which page they are on, the lady has different hair colour and skin tone. I showed four variations including; pale skin redhead, dark hair and olive skin, darker hair and dark skin, blonde hair and pale skin.

  • Jodie:

Im really inspired by your creative ideas. Me and my friend at college are working on our G11 assignment on making our very our salon. We need to come up with every thing such as the premises, logo, prices, staff and every thing involved with opening your own salon. We was wondering seen as you have the experiance of running your own salon you could give us some tips and ideas for ours. Thank you for your time in reading and hope you can help us :) Jodie and Liz x x

  • Hi Jodie and Liz,

I’m happy to help where possible but not sure who it is you need help from, whether it;s myself or the owner of Escape Salon.

    I will clarify the two roles for you;

    - Designer: The owner of Escape Salon came to us as a design firm to develop their brand image (logo and styling) and various other brand design services you see such as print design, web design and so on.

    - Owner: The owner of Escape Salon is experienced in running a successful salon business, and utilises the designs created by use to market that business to its customers.

So if you can clarify what sort of advice you need I know best who can advise you…whether it’s advice you need in brand design (I can help) or advice in business planning, management and development for a salon. In which case the salon owner ‘may’ happy to give you some tips.

    Best Wishes

    Amanda

  • Hi Michelle,

Why don’t you get in touch with the owner of the salon and see if they are happy to send you their literature?
