Talking of books recently, tomorrow is World Book Day! Not that it’s advertised much (to my knowledge), I’m pretty certain I’d know nothing of it if I were not a parent at the mercy of the school annual demands for me to dress my child as a book character.
My children have red hair, which always make them a challenge when it comes to character creation because most characters do not have red hair. This year for my 8yr old son I came up with my most spectacular idea yet, The Dread Pirate Roberts!
Firstly, The Princess Bride is awesomeness and one of my favourite movies (adapted from the book by William Goldman, which is also around the house somewhere), and secondly, the bandana completely obscures his troublesome hair, which is carrot red (and I mean proper carrot), instead of blonde like our fair Wesley.
When I suggested it my son seemed unimpressed by the notion (until I mentioned the sword that is), whereas my excitement over him being dressed as the man in black was at epic proportions. I bet when he rocks up to school tomorrow they won’t even know who he is supposed to be, and I wager that even when he says he is The Dread Pirate Roberts, they will still be none the wiser. THE PHILISTINES.
