22 Banksy Exhibition Photos
I haven’t been to the Banksy exhibition - don’t love his work that much to be honest - but I know that lots of my readers probably do … therefore because I have friends in high places (my artistic sister…ahem…), I bring you 22 Banksy Bristol Exhibition photos.
I don’t understand a good two thirds of them to be honest.
Whola…..

Of course you can see more via someone far more dedicated than me, such as this Flickr member who has some great Banksy photos….
The only thing I’m noticing in their photo stream is that there are things there that were there before the Banksy exhibition (I think!) I was there a few weeks ago before the Banksy exhibition official date and for instance saw the Cosmo cover in the display case and am not sure whether Banksy started putting stuff in early or whether the Flickr member is confusing Banksy works with the works that were already there.

Weirdly enough, the Cosmo cover sitting in Bristol Museum is the exact same issue that (Truly Ace branding project) Love in the Afternoon featured in. I thought that rather oddly coincidental during my visit.

I love Banksy’s work but I prefer some of his older stuff in comparison with a lot of the new stuff he’s done lately. The fourth image with the running children is one of my favourites, but doesn’t give younger generations a positive image.
Must have been nice to see the magazine in Bristol Museum knowing your work is in it. TrulyAce designs have officially been featured in a museum!!

Well I think Banksy is more into ‘making a point’ rather than positive images. With that image I believe he refers to the ‘Yoof’ of today not being as youth perhaps once were. He’d be right I think.
I was weirded out to see the Cosmo cover in the museum, I thought …”what an odd coincidence that is”

I’m not a huge fan of Banksy’s work either really, but on the other hand I think they are all clever concepts executed well. Part of me likes that he has something to say about society, and the other half thinks he’s been churning out the same pretentious twoddle for years.
A lot of his work is designed to shock, the one with the woman and the frying pan is a prime example of this. I also know he used to doctor famous paintings (like the one with the car dumped by the river) and then put them up uninvited in galleries and see how long they lasted for - I think that’s more interesting than having a ‘real’ exhibition.
Cant deny the guy’s got skills though. For some reason, Fonejacker reminds me of Banksy. Dont know why.

I have a soft spot for Banksy but then I have followed his work since around 1999/2000 when I used to work in a design agency just off Soho Square. I used to spot these spray stenciled monkeys with different messages, nobody at work knew who he was when I asked around and a quite liked that.
The fact that he has stumbled into becoming an artist who commands high prices for his work is quite nice also.
I really like where he has come from and I think this is down to his thought process and comment on society. Yes some of it misses the mark massivily but when he gets it right I think that he is very relevant! My favourite piece is “Jesus with shopping bags” it’s work like that, that I really admire. Here is a link to that piece if your happy to post it Amanda: http://www.thepicturebox.com.au/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/Banksy_Jesus_Sho_49dd6fc1bebcb.jpg

Thanks for the link, I do like that Jesus picture, it’s quite attractive to look at compared to much of his work actually.

Art is not just pretty pictures though Amanda, I like the fact that his work makes a social comment!

I was in Bristol this weekend actually for a break away (I love Bristol) and as we walked past the museum on the way home on Sunday there was a massive queue. I was surprised that so long after the opening there is still queing going on.
It was the weekend of the hot air balloon fiesta however, so I guess people probably came into Bristol for the balloon fair and then decided to add Banksy to it also …so far more tourists in town that weekend than usual.
I noted something interesting high up at the front of the museum as I passed: http://www.nerdbanite.com/2009/08/ronald-mcdonald-bristo/ …. seemed fitting to view it on a Sunday morning after everyone (myself included) had been partying the night away on Saturday. I did actually star hard for a while to make sure it wasn’t an actual person up there rather than another Banksy exhibit!
Apparently it’s a new addition to the collection.

I heard that there has been a large queue since the exhibition started usually 4,000+ each day. He is a world renown artist now and this is his largest exhibition to date, so not really a surprise. Why didn’t you take a look Amanda? I going along this week all being well.

I wouldn’t bother to visit a Banksy exhibition myself, because I just don’t love his work that much to be honest :-))
