On My Travels ….Wall Art

Brand Design Company Identity

Whilst out and about on my travels again I found a corker of a business brand, absolutely brilliant and I have lots of photos for you and information about the artist involved :)

This weekend I took my kids to see Beauty on the Beast on stage in Bristol. Which is brilliant by the way, being a bit Disney fan as you know, my husband I had seen it already before the kids were even born!

So Bristol is the stomping ground of when I met my husband 15 years ago (yes, I’m getting long in the tooth now) and as I wandered through it’s beautiful Bohemian streets and markets we decided to stop for lunch before heading to the theatre.

Unexpected Brand Design Find
Being a fussy so and so I was looking for something nice yet cosy and after discounting three venues I finally settled upon a bar called Start The Bus after a brief glance and the menu outside and a quick gander through the doorway that assured me cosy seating and yet a funky interesting atmosphere.

Well, when I stepped in side I was made up I can tell you ….pictures, fabulous pictures all over the walls as part of the best pub branding efforts I have ever seen!

Now every pub has it’s ‘image’ and ‘vibe’ and I’d say that this bar, is definitely going for the vibe of Bohemian, Studenty, Artistic… Bristol is a bit of a student and bohemian style hangout by the way …. my husband went to University there, which is why I spent so much time there in my youth.

It was pretty clear to me that the bar owner (or maybe they have a marketing team?) is extremely creative in terms of ideas. I’ve first of all never seen a bar with so many great marketing ideas for getting people through the door…

- Band nights, lots of them
- Craft fairs, in the bar itself! (very unique idea)
- Film nights
- Lots more, I should have took the events menu really but didn’t.

I did photograph it though because I loved their nod to Andy Warhol with the Campbells soup can :)

As far as their overall image is concerned, they have firmly cemented their vibe of being artistic and bohemian by plastering virtually every wall of the bar in absolutely stunning graffiti/grunge style artwork.

So of course I set about taking lots of photos.

My final photo as exiting the bar, was to thankfully spot that the artist had rather cleverly daubed their website address onto one of the walls also, and it is with great pleasure I present to you the rest of the work of SP Sepr.

You’ll view a little section of the Stop The Bus artwork in there also, in much better clarity. The website is a bit hard to navigate, so I should tell you that you can find the Start The Bus artwork from the homepage by following Misc, and then click ‘08′.

Have a good look through their work - you should see their large scale grafetti works at places like the Bristol Docks, outstanding!

Enjoy!!

Oh yes … the Start The Bus Website is pretty cool as well, albeit difficult to navigate.

Nice decorations! The black and white illustrations are really interesting, and the Warhol soup can is genius! This truly is why we should take our cameras EVERYWHERE. Great find :D

Did you visit his website? I think he has really interesting art, shame there was no artist bio that I could find.

I did think about contacting him to ask for a bio but was impatient to get the blog up! :)

I’m becoming quite a fan of outline pencil type of grunge drawings like this, and I love the recent pencil drawings that my idol Jason Brooks has created … http://www.jason-brooks.com/portfolio/ - in his fashion section.

Definitely take your camera everywhere, I’ve found some really interesting things when out and about. I had some lovely wall art from a castle in wales but lost the photo files so couldn’t blog about it :( pah….silly me.

These are very cool. Design and great art is everywhere and a lot of people take it for granted. It’s so great when it’s noticed and observed by someone. I’m sure the artist will appreciate it. Thanks for posting.
