Mermaids As A Creative Subject
Whilst on holiday in Malta in Spring I discovered in the villa these beautifully illustrated table place mats.
I’m particularly impressed with the mermaid … the detail, the swirling of the hair, and the style of the face in particular really reminds of the way that characters features were sometimes illustrated in the black and white storyboards in 1970’s girls annuals like ‘Mandy’ and ‘Diana’ for instance.

Unfortunately, I am yes old enough to remember 
I also like these folk art style place mats that I found along with the set of mermaid place mats. With these the faces are also illustrated in a very unique way.

Wow, I absolutely love these ‘liney’ illustrations. I’ve seen a lot of them lately in design areas like fashion. I hope you stole (I mean ‘aquired’) some of those placemets!! haha

I’m starting to get quite jealous of all the ‘liney’ illustrations I’m seeing, I feel it’s only a matter of time before I do one something like that myself
